Drama, Danger, and Diva-Level Vocals: The Bodyguard is Coming to Nottingham

There are some musicals that arrive quietly, and then there are musicals that come armed with one of the most iconic love songs of all time.
The Bodyguard is heading to the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 July 2026, and this is one of those shows that already feels like a proper night out before the curtain has even gone up. Big vocals, big drama, big romance and a soundtrack packed with songs you absolutely know — what more could you want?
Based on the much-loved 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard tells the story of former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. She is used to being in control. He is trained to take control. Naturally, neither of them plans on falling in love.
And that is where the magic — and the tension — begins.
Part romantic thriller, part dazzling concert-style spectacle, The Bodyguard has all the ingredients for a truly gripping theatre trip. There is glamour, danger, heartbreak, chemistry and enough powerhouse vocals to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It is sleek, dramatic and emotional, but it also has that irresistible, glossy musical theatre energy that makes you want to book a ticket and get dressed up for the occasion.
Then, of course, there is the music.
The show features an incredible line-up of Whitney Houston classics, including Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, Run to You, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and, of course, the song that needs absolutely no introduction: I Will Always Love You.
That alone is enough to make this feel unmissable.
But The Bodyguard is not just relying on nostalgia. The stage version has become a smash hit in its own right, playing to millions of people across the world and earning Olivier Award nominations along the way. It takes the film’s iconic story and gives it the full theatre treatment — heightened emotion, live vocals, slick staging and that wonderful feeling of being swept up in something larger than life.
Leading the tour as Rachel Marron is Sidonie Smith, an international musical theatre artist who is no stranger to the role, having previously played Rachel in Stuttgart to critical acclaim. She is joined by a strong company including Sasha Monique as Nicki Marron and Matt Milburn as Sy Spector, with Mireia Mambo playing Rachel Marron at certain performances.
For anyone who loves a musical with serious vocals, this is going to be a treat. For anyone who loves the film, it is a chance to see that story brought to life in a completely new way. And for anyone who just wants a night of drama, glamour and songs that practically demand a standing ovation, The Bodyguard should be very high on the list.
It is romantic. It is tense. It is packed with hits. And let’s be honest — hearing I Will Always Love You performed live is the sort of theatre moment people book tickets for. So, whether you are going for the Whitney soundtrack, the love story, the thriller element or simply the promise of a huge night at the theatre, The Bodyguard looks set to deliver.
